Azafran 97 Ekibin Road, Annerley, 3892 1776

Azafran Restaurant is about Marc Bocquee's dream to share his passion for food with his guests. Marc completed his apprenticeship at Augustine's Restaurant where he met Sarah who was waitressing whilst studying at University. After Sarah completed her Business/HR degree, they took off to further pursue their career and life passions travelling Europe in 2000 and 2001. Whilst based in London, Marc worked at the exclusive London Capital Club and also at the infamous Mosimanns in Belgrave Square. Sarah worked at a busy Recruitment Agency on Oxford Street. During their second year in England they decided to pursue a joint venture that provided them with employment and a cultural experience - running an English pub just south of Greater London.

Since their return, Marc has worked with some of Brisbane's better known chefs, including PJ McMillan. Our philosophy is very simple - 'while the kitchen works hard to produce a plate that is impressive in presentation and balanced in taste, texture and colour, we all realise that our final product is the customer feeling happy that they have entrusted their evening to us.'

The opening of Azafran capped off a wonderful year in 2004 for both Marc and Sarah. They were married in May and almost skipped their honeymoon because of their commitment to the transformation of 'Dashing Food' into their dream restaurant. We have been open for 4 years and still love what we do and the wonderful people we have met since we have had our restaurant!

Azafran Restaurant Profiled by DeGroots Media

"Aza fran is a great example of how the characteristics of a bright, energetic and passionate young couple exude through their restaurant. Azafran is the deliciously exotic Spanish name for saffron. It's also the name of a neat little restaurant in suburban Annerley. Owners Sarah and Marc Bocquee are testament to what owning and operating a restaurant is all about. They fell in love with the restaurant while dining at Azafran's almost a year prior to when they bought it. During that time they waited patiently for the opportunity to present itself unto when they snatched it up and made it their own. Azafran's is a mesh between city dining and suburban pace that appeals to the locals who pop in regularly and to other folks who travel from town to experience Azafran for themselves.

The wine list at Azafran is well chosen and suited to the menu of modern Australian cuisine, jazzed up with European and Middle Eastern techniques and flavours. It seems Azafran's most famous dish is actually one of their desserts - the Turkish Delight Pannacotta. A delicious and sought after sweet treat, it comes accompanied with pistachio ice-cream and saffron fairy floss. This delectable dish came about after a fair bit of experimentation to ensure its perfect consistency and balance of flavour. At one stage it came off the menu but regular diners went into such an uproar that it was immediately reinstated. Azafran's offers a friendly and homely atmosphere, making it a great change to the busy and fast-paced restaurants in the city."
